   “MIND THE GAP “

Passengers on the London Underground are familiar with the warning to “mind the gap”

The carriages are straight, but the platform is curved – hence,  ” the gap”.

At AKIM -Jerusalem there is a different “gap’’ – the shortfall in the charity’s budget between what it gets from the Israeli Government and the funding required for a full range of therapeutic, cultural and recreational programmes designed to give all of AKIM’s intellectually challenged beneficiaries a better mainstream life of quality.

So, how does AKIM fill the gap? For the past 15 years with money raised through the generosity of sponsors of enthusiastic trekkers who hike 20km plus per day across often difficult terrain in some of the most beautiful parts of Israel.

In May 2018 12-year-old Adam Tobias and his grandpa Peter aim to reach new heights, literally, trekking from the Hermon to the Golan. Adam acknowledges it is hard work and not always easy to raise money to help people in need -but the AKIM trek is also a lot of fun.

For Adam this will be his third trek in a row and for Peter  his eleventh !

Adam and Peter are dedicating their efforts this year especially to mark the 20^th anniversary of Adam’s Aunt Gaby’s successful bone marrow transplant.

Team Tobias’ minimum target is $3000. Adam and Peter are confident that your kind support will motivate them and help them to fill AKIM’s” gap”.
